On The Ground

What we’re thinking about this week

According to last year’s Healthcare Executive Compensation study, only 35% of executives negotiated their salary. That’s a pretty dramatic drop from 44% the year before (2023). The psychology of negotiation is a complex one - maybe you don’t want to be seen as “difficult”, or you doubt your value, or you just haven’t had the practice of doing so. Not to mention market dynamics, and job safety in general, certainly played a role in the 9-point drop. But ultimately the results were the same - of those who negotiated, they gained an 11.3% increase in their base (on par with 2023’s 11.6%).

Whatever your reason for not making the ask, don’t let the lack of compensation benchmarking be one. Comp data shouldn’t be locked behind a paywall.
