On The Ground

What we’re thinking about this week

As innovative health companies turn their sights to the second half of the year, many things remain uncertain, including organizational structures. (More on that next week when we gather your perspectives for our Mid-Year Report).

But one thing is for sure, there is no shortage of talent from other industries that wants to move into healthcare. The last few days, New York City played host to Tech Week, a decentralized convention for innovative minds. As our team attended various panels, hangouts, and networking events in the health tracks, we met numerous individuals who were just starting to break into the space. More often than not, these conversations were with people who were looking to leave their existing work in mission-less organizations and join companies that are making an impact. For all the uncertainty that our industry has seen, the perspective from the outside is that it is still far more stable than “the traditional” tech ecosystems these folks are leaving behind.

During the “Female Founders & VC” panel, one audience member asked, "How do you attract top talent from non-health ecosystems, particularly at the early stages?" Unanimously, each panelist mentioned mission and values - everyone has someone in their lives who has been impacted by inefficient or suboptimal experiences with our healthcare system, and leading with the mission can get people interested much more than traction metrics. We see this too in our work. When we go outside of the healthcare industry in our efforts, the biggest selling point is how the company is transforming the human experience.

With that in mind, one of our "why's" at Aequitas is our joy in connecting individuals who didn’t know they needed to be connected in the first place! Here’s how we can help.
